Parenting Workshop

Positive Parenting Workshop at The New ICNM – January 20, 2007

With the completion of the new Islamic Center, the ICNM Board is expanding the services we can offer to the community in Albuquerque. One of the first such events is a Positive Parenting Skills Workshop planned for January 20th, 2007, sponsored jointly by the ICNM and Afghan Society of New Mexico (ASNM). The workshop addresses the issue of parenting to a wide audience including Muslim parents, newly married couples, teachers, educators, care givers. The Parenting Workshop is conducted by Dr. Ekram Beshir and Dr. Mohamed Rida Beshir, from Ottawa, Canada.

Drs. Ekram and Mohamed Rida Beshir are a wife and husband team who has a long history of studying the parenting issues in the North American society context and formulating a workshop to address these issues in great depth. In addition to this widely acclaimed and effective workshop, they have jointly co-authored several best-selling parenting books such as "Meeting the Challenge of Parenting in the West," "Muslim Teens, Today's Worry, Tomorrow's Hope," "Blissful Marriage" and "Parenting Skills based on Qur'an and Sunnah." They have also authored parenting books in Arabic. Some of their parenting books have been translated to French and German.

They also teach two courses on the subject of parenting with the Islamic American University. They are both regular contributors to the family section of several magazines such as "American Muslim," "Islamic Horizons", and the "Message magazine." Both Drs. Ekram and Mohamed Rida Beshir are also advisers on the Islam online website family section. Drs. Ekram and Mohamed Rida Beshir are the recipients of the City of Ottawa Certificate of Appreciation for the year 2003 for their volunteer work in the area of Education.
