AAWW BR. Everyone,
ASNM Election for the new year was held on Sunday May 7th, 2006 at 1 pm at the German/American club. The club has a new President, Vicky. This is her first time working with us, let's make sure its a pleasant experience.
I'm sorry to say that the turnout for the Election was very poor. ASNM made a serious effort to communicate the date of the Election with everyone. We made announcements at the Eid Qhurban and Naw Roz party. We called everyone on the list the week before and Made announcements during the Qhatim on Friday night, at Asghar Jans house. I believe we exhausted all our efforts. This was the first time (and hopefully the last) that I was disappointed with the community as a whole.
After 2 & 1/2 hours the members present decided to hold the election rather than postpone for another gathering. Salimshah Jan has stepped down from the position of treasurer. During his four years as a treasure of ASNM he did a fantastic job collecting and balancing the budget. We will miss him and I'm sad to see him go.
I opted to not run for office this year because of a new job that I will be starting on May 15th(InshAllah). However, the community would not take many nooo's for an answer! I was nominated again. I hope they realize that this year I will expect much more from the community, they may regret the decision to have me run again.
The people that were nominated are as follows: Harris,Ismael Harris, Habib Majid, Najeb and Ahad jan. After the voting proxy I was elected as President and we will decide on the other four members positions at the next meeting which is on May 13th 2006.
We concluded the meeting with this years accomplishments and a prayer.
We ask Allah for a productive and successful year. We ask Allah for a closely bonded and committed community. We ask Allah for steadiness and strength.
